According to the ‘Rings of Power’ cast and crew, the production has already filmed a key sequence for season 2 depicting Sauron’s debut…

After the season 1 finale of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power , it’s no surprise that the show intends to deepen the story of its main villain when it returns for its second season.

During an interview for Empire, actor Charlie Vickers (Halbrand/Sauron) shared that he’s already filmed an important sequence that will set the backstory of the Dark Lord’s story.

“ You know how we see Galadriel at the start of Season 1? Part of the footage I shot is the beginning of Sauron’s story in the next season and it’s that footage but I’m not going to go into detail ,” Charlie Vickers teases.

Even though actor and series showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay haven’t given much information about how far they’ll go into Sauron’s past in season 2, this reveal hints at the possibility of uncovering what he was doing during the First Age of Middle-earth.

Much of Sauron’s pre-Second Age history is detailed in JRR Tolkien ‘s posthumous work The Silmarillion , a work to which the Tolkien Estate still owns the rights and which Amazon cannot quite adapt. However, there are still certain elements that The Rings of Power can represent and elaborate with the works that the production has the rights to use, including the Lord of the Rings Appendices .

It’s likely that the series will be able to show some of Sauron’s time as a lieutenant of Morgoth, the very first Dark Lord of Middle-earth, especially since the show has already referenced the Great Battle of the First Age, the war where Sauron killed Galadriel’s brother ( Morfydd Clark ). It seems indeed possible to represent some of the events that led to this battle as well as its consequences.

As a reminder, at the end of the First Age, Sauron was indeed forced into hiding because his master Morgoth was defeated. The latter is the reason the Trees of Valinor were destroyed, why the Elves grew weaker and are now fascinated by Mithril.

As to whether we’ll see Morgoth himself in the series, that is the question. The Great Battle, however, seems like the perfect way to show Sauron’s journey before his first fall to where we see him now and introduce the character in question.

Since The Rings of Power features Galadriel as her equal in the light, it would make sense that the sequence with Sauron already shot in Season 2 would be similar to its opening scene in the pilot.

As Season 1 begins with the end of the First Age and the Great Battle from Galadriel’s perspective, it would be interesting to see Sauron’s perspective now. Galadriel has spent centuries searching for evidence of his existence, so it would be fitting to see what he was up to all that time.

While waiting to be able to discover this famous sequence as well as the rest of season 2, the entirety of season 1 of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is available on Amazon Prime Video.
